Join us for a public celebration featuring family activities and programming in celebration of our 200th Anniversary. Be among the first to experience The Academy at 200: The Nature of Discovery on opening weekend, and enjoy music, special appearances, games, crafts, birthday cake, and more.

Bicentennial Town Square Series

April 2012 through June 2013

The Academy’s Center for Environmental Policy will feature a special series of programs on major issues of sustainability and the environment in celebration of the Academy’s Bicentennial. The 12 programs will be divided into the following topics:

  • Climate Change and Energy:

  • Food and Public Health:
    September 2012 through November 2012
  • Water:
    January 2013 through March 2013
  • Green Building, Urban Design, and the Built Environment
    April 2013 through June 2013

A Glorious Enterprise Book Launch

April 2012

Be among the first to read A Glorious Enterprise, an illustrated history of the Academy by Robert M. Peck, curator of Art and Artifacts and senior fellow of the Academy, and Patricia Tyson Stroud, biographer, with photographs by Rosamond Purcell. Mr. Peck will address Academy members and the general public and sign books.

Bicentennial Scientific Symposium

Thursday and Friday, October 11 and 12, 2012

“Biological Diversity: From Evolutionary Origins to Ecosystem Function”

Mark the end of the year by celebrating the Academy’s future and honoring its past, and hear a message for the next century.

Women in Natural Sciences (WINS) 30th Anniversary

The Academy’s Bicentennial also marks the 30th anniversary of WINS, the Academy’s competitive science education and life skills mentoring program for young women from Philadelphia public high schools.
