Academy Light Show

laser light show in front of the Academy

Don’t miss the awe-inspiring multimedia light show taking place at the Academy every night through March 27 in celebration of our Bicentennial! The five-minute show on the Academy’s historic façade on Logan Circle features color-changing LED light technology coupled with animated laser images from the Academy’s renowned collections of more than 18 million specimens, all choreographed to music. Catch it every night through Tuesday, March 27, beginning at 7:30 pm and running every 30 minutes until 10:30 pm.

We’ll be open until 9 pm this Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, as a part of our Bicentennial Weekend celebration. Watch our special sneak video preview of the show below.

The show was produced by Image Engineering (IE, Baltimore and Nashville), which has created special effects for some of the nation’s largest events, including the Super Bowl and the Olympics. It features animated laser designs created by Genell Canty, IE’s director of SPFX Design and a graduate of Drexel University’s Westphal School of Media Arts & Design.
