Philadelphia Shell Show, Oct 22 and 23

PHILADELPHIA, October 3, 2016

Thousands of beautiful and unusual shells from around the world will be on display and for sale when the Philadelphia Shell Show returns to the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22 and 23.

The annual show, now in its 34th year, is the largest show of its kind in the Northeast. Presented with the Philadelphia Shell Club, the event draws serious collectors who compete for prizes for their displays, as well as amateur beachcombers who like to show off their collections on the living room mantelpiece.

Visitors can view an amazing variety of shells and also purchase shell jewelry, shell books, shell knickknacks, and other curious items made with nature’s bounty. Academy scientists will give free behind-the-scenes tours of the Malacology Collection of 10 million specimens, the world’s second largest shell collection. Tours will be offered at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. both days.

The Philadelphia Shell Show is free with regular museum admission and takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Discounted tickets are available at ansp.org.
