Boy Scouts: 2010-2011
Follow the Boy Scout Trail to the Academy of Natural Sciences! Our activities are perfect for troops, dens and packs looking for advancement and adventure!
The Academy offers exciting and interactive weekend workshops for Cub Scouts (Tiger, Wolf and Bear Scouts), Webelos, Boy Scouts, and our popular Safari Overnights sleepovers for scouts 7-14 years old.
Workshops are offered from 10:15-12:15 or 1:30-3:30. Admission to the museum for the rest of the day is included, so make sure to leave enough time to explore. Please note that the Academy does not provide the actual Badges.

- $7 per adult
$17 per scout (includes $10 workshop fee + $7 admission) - Merit Badges: $19 per scout (includes $12 workshop fee + $7 admission)
- Admission is waived for members! Become a member now.
Call 215-299-1060 to register for workshops or overnights. Workshop fees are due upon registration and admission is to be paid upon arrival. A final headcount is due one month prior to the workshop; any cancellation after this date will not be refunded. Space is limited. Register early for your preferred date and time.

Rock the World!
Scouts will participate in games, skits, crafts and demonstrations that teach them about natural resources and how to show respect and responsibility for the natural world. This interactive lesson fulfills the necessary requirements for the Cub Scout Geology Academic Belt Loop and Pin as well as the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” Tiger elective. The lesson also contains activities from the Scientist Academic Belt Loop and Pin, Wolves “Start a Collection ” and “Your Living World”, and Bears “Sharing Your World With Wildlife.”
Wildlife Conservation
Scouts will learn about natural resources, endangered species, camouflage, conservation, and more through interactive games, activities, and a craft. This lesson fulfills the requirements for the Cub Scout Wildlife Conservation Belt Loop and Pin.

Webelo Activity Badge Days are offered in the Fall of 2010 and the Winter and Spring of 2011. You can register for either the morning (10:15 am - 12:15 pm) or afternoon (1:30 - 3:30 pm) sessions. Two different programs are offered:
Forester & Naturalist:
Webelos will learn about our natural world through demonstrations, games and skits that illustrate how forests grow, the species that make up an ecosystem, and how humans impact nature.
Geologist & Scientist:
Webelos will learn how rocks and minerals are formed and used everyday in your home, visit our Fossil Prep Lab with one of our Paleontologists, and learn about the different kinds of rocks. Scouts will participate in hands-on experiments, demonstrations and discussions to learn about physics!

Environmental Science
Under the direction of our Merit Badge Counselor, scouts will be guided through a series of experiments and hands-on activities. This intensive workshop will provide your scouts with the majority of the requirements for completion of this required badge for Eagle Scout. Some activities will need to be completed at home and submitted to the merit badge counselor before or after the workshop for approval. Mammal Study
Under the direction of our Merit Badge Counselor, scouts will complete all the requirements for the Mammal Study Merit Badge. This intensive workshop guides scouts through mammalian classification, a project to help mammals in their neighborhood, and an investigation of the history and purpose of our museum’s extensive mammal collection. Reptile and Amphibian Study
Under the direction of our Merit Badge Counselor, scouts will work towards their Reptile and Amphibian Study Merit Badge. Through interactions with live animals, museum specimens and interactive games, scouts will learn the differences between reptiles and amphibians, learn identifying field marks, and even investigate how they move. Work on Webelos Badges, Cub Scout Achievements, and Cub Scout Academic Pins during a fun-filled night of interactive activities that includes a Live Animal Show. Then stay all night, sleeping right next to our museum exhibits. Have breakfast in the morning and, if you want, stay the day.
Safari Overnights are appropriate for children ages 7-14. One adult is required per 3 children. Girl siblings are not permitted.
Check-in is at 6:30-7:00 pm. A snack is provided in the evening and breakfast is provided the next morning. Overnight gear must be removed from the building by 9 am, but participants are welcome to stay all day. Go to Safari Overnight Details for pricing and other information.
Overnight themes are based on Webelos Badges but also fulfill requirements for younger scouts. Contact for details.
