Girl Scouts: 2007-2008
Science is great for Girl Scouts! Explore the museum, earn Try-Its and Badges, and meet new friends at The Academy of Natural Sciences!
The Academy offers exciting and interactive weekend workshops for Brownies and Junior Girl Scouts to earn Try-Its or Badges, and our popular Safari Overnights sleepovers for 7-14 year olds. Girls will complete their their Badge or Try-Its, but please remember that The Academy for Natural Sciences does not provide pins or badges.
Workshops are offered from 10:15-12:15 or 1:30-3:30. Admission to the museum for the rest of the day is included, so make sure to leave enough time to explore.

- $7.50 per adult
$14.50 per scout (includes $8 workshop fee + $6.50 admission) - Admission is waived for members! Become a member now.
Call 215.299.1060 to register for workshops or overnights. Workshop fees are due upon registration and admission is to be paid upon arrival. A final headcount is due one month prior to the workshop; any cancellation after this date will not be refunded. Space is limited. Register early for your preferred date and time.

Interested in a different date? Private workshops can be scheduled for scout groups of 20-30, and private overnights can be arranged for groups of 100-300 participants. Contact us at .
Brownies Try-Its
Brownie Try-Its Workshops are offered in the Fall of 2007 and the Winter and Spring of 2008. You can register for either the morning (10:15 am - 12:15 pm) or afternoon (1:30 - 3:30 pm) sessions. Two different programs are offered:
Eco-Explorer & Senses:
Brownies will get a sensational sensory experience learning about their senses and using them to find out about nature and animals. Scouts will do crafts and scavenger hunts to find out about animal habitats and food chains.
Watching Wildlife & Animals:
Brownies will learn the difference between wild and domestic animals, observe some of our live animals, and learn how animals communicate. A scavenger hunt and games, such as “Animal Moves” and “Grocery Bingo” keep scouts active and engaged.

Junior Girl Scout Badges
Junior Girl Scout Badge Days are offered in the Fall of 2007 and the Winter and Spring of 2008. You can register for either the morning (10:15 am - 12:15 pm) or afternoon (1:30 - 3:30 pm) sessions. Four different programs are offered:
Eco-Action Badge
Scouts will experiment with ways to conserve energy and resources, learn how to reduce their own environmental impact, make a craft out of recycled material, and learn about some famous environmental scientists who were women. Wear old clothes!
Oil Up Badge
Scouts will create and then clean up their own oil spill. They will then experiment with different ways rescuers use to clean up animals caught in the oil. Scouts will also learn about the people of the countries where oil is produced, and explore alternative sources of energy. Wear old clothes!
Rocks Rock Badge
Scouts will handle specimens of the three main types of rock, start a rock collection and make a ‘fossil’ to take home, learn about careers from our own Paleo Lab professionals, and discover the geologic history of a landscape. Wear old clothes!
Wildlife Badge
Scouts will do close observations of live animals and record their observations, play games to learn the differences between classes of animals and learn to identify poisonous plants and animals.

Safari Overnights for Girl Scouts

Work on Brownie Try-Its and Junior Girl Scout Badges during a fun-filled night of interactive activities that includes a Live Animal Show. Then stay all night, sleeping right next to our museum exhibits. Have breakfast in the morning and, if you want, stay the day.
Safari Overnights are appropriate for children ages 7-14. One adult is required per 3 children.
Male participants will be required to sleep on a separate floor from Girl Scouts.
Check-in is at 6:30-7:00 pm. A snack is provided in the evening and breakfast is provided the next morning. Overnight gear must be removed from the building by 9 am, but participants are welcome to stay all day. Go to Safari Overnight Details for pricing and other information.
