Educational Programs
Dear Teacher,
Welcome to the 2011–2012 school programs at the Academy of Natural Sciences!
2012 is an important year for the Academy, as we will be celebrating our 200th birthday on March 21, 2012! We are planning an entire year of programming and events to mark this important occasion. We are especially excited for you and your students to learn about the Academys past, present, and future through our spectacular new exhibit, The Academy at 200: The Nature of Discovery, opening March 24, 2012! We will be adding more programs, events, and activities throughout the year, so keep checking this page for updates!
During the 200 days leading up to our birthday celebration, weve selected 200 stories that provide a glimpse into the Academys rich history and amazing discoveries of yesterday and today. You and your students can follow along to meet a few of our quirkier personalities and find out the secret stories behind some of our most well-known exhibits, scientific breakthroughs, and more!
You won't want to miss BugsOutside The Box, our special exhibit on display from October 22, 2011 through January 16, 2012. We're pairing live insects with gigantic and scientifically accurate insect sculptures by noted Italian artist Lorenzo Possenti. Bring your students to see bugs up close and investigate Possentis amazing adaptations.
Looking for Act 48 credits? Many of our adult field studies and workshops offer Act 48 credit hours to our teacher participants. These programs provide you the opportunity to work closely with and learn from Academy scientists.
Don't forget, you and a guest can check out the museum for free prior to visiting with your students. Just clip out the museum pass!
We look forward to seeing you!
