Follow the Boy Scout Trail to the Academy of Natural Sciences! Our activities are perfect for troops, dens, and packs looking for advancement and adventure! The Academy offers exciting and interactive weekend Activity Badge Days and our popular Safari Overnights sleepovers.

Boys will complete their badges, but please remember that we do not provide them.

Activity Badge Days

Webelo Activity Badge Days are being offered in the Fall of 2013 and the Winter and Spring of 2014. You can register for either the morning (10:15 am–12:15 pm) or afternoon (1:30–3:30 pm) sessions. Two different programs are offered:

Forester & Naturalist

Webelos will learn about our natural world through demonstrations, games and skits that illustrate how forests grow, the species that make up an ecosystem, and how humans impact nature.

Scientist & Geologist

Webelos will learn how rocks and minerals are formed and used everyday in your home, visit our Fossil Prep Lab with one of our Paleontologists, and learn about the different kinds of rocks. Scouts will participate in hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and discussions to learn about physics!

You can register for either the morning (10:15 am–12:15 pm) or afternoon (1:30–3:30 pm) sessions.

Day Workshop details

The fees per scout are $12 for the workshop and $13 for museum admission. All fees are due upon registration. Admission fees for additional family members are $13 and are due upon arrival. Members do not pay an admission fee unless they are visiting our Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibit between October 12, 2013, and March 30, 2014. The fee for this exhibit is $3 per person.

A final headcount is due one month prior to the workshop; any cancellation after this date will not be refunded. Space is limited. Register early for your preferred date and time.

Scout parents and leaders can download additional information about cancellations, workshop fees, where to go the day of the workshop, and more at a later date. Please inform us of any severe allergies or special needs at least one week before your program.

Emergency Weather Cancellation Policy

In times of severe weather conditions, it may be necessary to cancel scout workshops. However, if the museum is open scout workshops will run as scheduled. Refunds will only be provided if the museum has closed due to weather. Please check the the Academy’s website or call 215-299-1019 for information on closings. In the event of a weather related cancellation, the Academy will attempt to reschedule the workshop. If rescheduling is not possible, a full refund will be provided.

Safari Overnights

Work on Badges during a fun-filled night of interactive activities that includes a Live Animal Show. Then stay all night, sleeping right next to our museum exhibits. Have breakfast in the morning and, if you want, stay the day.

Safari Overnight Details

Check-in is at 6:30–7:00 pm. Overnight gear must be removed from the building by 9 am, but participants are welcome to stay all day.

Safari Overnights are appropriate for children ages 7–14. One adult is required per 3 children. Girl siblings are not permitted.

The fees are $40 for members and $45 for non-members. A nonrefundable deposit of $10 per person is due upon registration. Final numbers and balance must be submitted at least 3 weeks prior to your overnight date. There will be no refunds given after this date.

If you cancel:
If you do not pay your balance in full 3 weeks prior to the overnight date, you may lose your reservation. Membership information must be returned 3 weeks before the event; no fee adjustments will be made after that date.
If we cancel:
The Academy may cancel a Safari Overnight if there aren’t enough participants. If so, we’ll notify you two weeks prior to the event. We’ll try to arrange another overnight for you. If not, you’ll be granted a full refund.
