George Washington Carver
Science Fair & Summer Scholars

George Washington Carver Science Fair

Every March, 800-1,000 Philadelphia school children participate in the George Washington Carver Science Fair, sponsored jointly by The School District and The Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The largest of its kind in the country, the fair provides opportunities for students to gain enriched learning experiences through scientific inquiry and discovery. All students in grades 4-12 from Philadelphia public, parochial, and private schools are eligible to enter.

The Carver Fair has been held at the Academy since 1979, but due to growth in participation, the Academy currently houses the competition and award ceremony for grades 4-6, while Temple University hosts the events for 7th-12th grades. Students who participate in the Science Fair can apply for the Carver Summer Scholars Camp at the Academy, discussed below.

The dates for the George Washington Carver Science Fair have not yet been arranged, but the fair is held sometime in February or March. Registration occurs in January.
