Special Programs

The Education Department at the Academy of Natural Sciences offers the following special programs:

  • George Washington Carver Science Fair: This program is sponsored by the Philadelphia School District, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and the Academy. The Science Fair is presented in March.
  • Head Start on Science: This program, a partnership between the Academy, the Please Touch Museum and the School District of Philadelphia, provides 200 area preschool educators with hands-on training in inquiry science for the early childhood classroom.
  • Homeschool Programs: Homeschool programs are back at the Academy! Hands-on investigations and behind-the-scenes explorations bring science to homeschooled students. Each series offers an in-depth look at an exciting science topic from the perspectives of current research as well as the Academys historical collections.
  • SENSES: This program, which assisted schools, teachers, and students in the Philadelphia School District in developing and implementing excellent science education. Currently, the program focuses on Academy outreaches to Philadelphia Schools.
  • WINS: WINS (Women in the Natural Sciences) provides female Philadelphia public school students with hands-on experience in science and pre-college workshops and counseling.
