Dr. Weart, author, historian and former Director of the Center for History of Physics at the American Institute of Physics, will talk about the history of global warming at this Town Square event.
Dr. Weart was Director of the Center for History of Physics at the American Institute of Physics (AIP) from 1974–2009. He received a B.A. in Physics from Cornell University in 1963 and a Ph.D. in Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1968. In 1971 he enrolled as a graduate student in the History Department at the University of California, Berkeley.
During his career, Dr. Weart has written several books including: Out of the Crystal Maze: Chapters from the History of Solid-State Physics, Scientists in Power, Nuclear Fear: A History of Images, and Never At War: Why Democracies Will Not Fight One Another. Dr. Weart has also completed a variety of educational projects, including two science books for children, a film on the solar atmosphere, an audio-visual package on the nature of scientific discovery, and two widely used websites.
His most recent book is The Discovery of Global Warming (revised edition 2008). During this program, Dr. Weart will discuss climate change based on The Discovery of Global Warming website (www.aip.org/history/climate/index.html).
