Join us for Dinosaurs Unearthed Closing Weekend, January 14–16!

Weekend activities are free with admission, but a special ticket is required for Dinosaurs Unearthed.

Weekend details:

Auditorium Show: Dandy Dinos and Bodacious Birds
11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Even though dinosaurs have been gone for millions of years, their legacy lives on in their closest relatives: birds! Learn about reptiles through the ages, and meet some of our fine feathered friends to explore how birds are related to dinosaurs.

Auditorium Show: Back from the Field
1 p.m.

Did you know that the Academy has active dinosaur digs all over the world? Meet paleontologist Jason Poole, and learn about the research sites uncovered in Montana. Check out a short video of a cutting-edge research tool in action: a high-flying paleontology drone!

Nest Sweet Nest
If you think modern parents have a tough job, imagine keeping a whole nest full of delicate eggs and fragile babies safe from hungry predators! Compare casts of dinosaur nests to real bird nests and touch a rare piece of fossilized dinosaur egg.

Dinosaur Details MicroCart

Fossils are more fascinating under a microscope! Get “eye to eye” with a trilobite or “down to the bone” with a hadrosaur femur at this technology-enabled educational cart.

Making Tracks

Some of our best information about dinosaur behavior comes from studying dinosaur footprints. Make tracks to this station to learn about the impressions that dinosaurs left behind, and create your own mini dinosaur trackway to take home.

Skin Deep Dinosaur Crafts and Tattoos

What do we know about dinosaur skin? Find out while you choose your favorite dinosaur to decorate. Then make a statement with your own skin by getting a dinosaur temporary tattoo.

Live Reptile Exploration Station

Dinosaurs may be the most famous reptiles to ever walk the planet, but we’ve got some pretty cool LIVE snakes, turtles, and lizards right here at the Academy! Use cutting-edge technology to explore their miniature world at this interactive cart featuring our live animal ambassadors.

Diorama Dinosaur Drawing (and Coloring Book Signing!)

Draw on the diorama with special markers to help us create a fantastic landscape filled with dinosaurs and prehistoric wildlife. After you’ve “drawn to your art’s content,” purchase a copy of Dynasty of Dinosaurs and get it signed by the author, the Academy’s own Jason Poole.

Dinosaur Story Time
2 p.m.

Marty the Moose loves nothing more than entertaining the crowds with his terrible jokes and goofy sense of humor. Join Marty and his favorite humans for a special dinosaur edition of story time.

Say Hello to Eddie the T. rex

Eddie, the Academy’s favorite resident dinosaur, will be wandering around all day for photo-ops and hellos. Stop him for a “high-two” or to snap a selfie. Don’t forget to tag us @acadnatsci and #dinodelphia! Ask staff to help you find out where he will be spotted next.
