Captured on Film

On day three of Three Weeks Behind the Scenes, we take you deep into the Academy Archives. The Archives is home to an assemblage of materials, including two shipping containers that have, through rehousing efforts, outlived their original purposes. This photograph features a film-reel shipping container addressed to Dr. Ruth Patrick, founder of the Academy’s Limnology Department (now the Patrick Center for Environmental Research).

The Ewell Sale Stewart Library and Archives is home to another treasure, John James Audubon’s The Birds of America. You can see us turn the page of this rare masterwork every weekday at 3:15 pm. Visit us today!
