Entomology Highlights
Hop to it and come with us behind the scenes to see a colorful tropical insect. Species of Titanacris are among the largest grasshoppers native to the American tropics, with the biggest individuals attaining a wingspan of nearly 9 inches This specimen from the Academy’s Entomology Collection is from Panama (T. gloriosa). This species was named by Morgan Hebard (1887–1946), whose financial backing and scientific collaboration with Academy Curator James A.G. Rehn (1881–1965) helped us build the world’s most important grasshopper collection.
Mark your calendars and save the date for Bug Fest 2012 on Saturday and Sunday, August 10 and 11.
