Celebrate the Cretaceous with a day devoted to dinosaurs! Go back in time as you meet live animals and figure out fossilization with fun hands-on activities.

  • Solve paleontological mysteries using real fossil clues
  • Try your hand at fleshing out a dinosaur in our Ancient Art Studio
  • Spend some time with live animal species that have been around since the time of the dinosaurs

Scouts can visit the special exhibit, Dinosaurs Unearthed, and come face-to-face with roaring, moving animatronic dinosaurs.

Reptile and Amphibian Day

From turtles to Tyrannosaurus rex, reptiles past and present have an amazing array of adaptations that help them survive. During your visit, touch specimens and meet living examples of reptiles from around the world.

  • Investigate how some snakes “see” in infrared with a thermal imager
  • Experiment with python grip strength and crocodile bite force and see how you measure up
  • Discover which venomous snakes do and don’t live in our area
  • Touch specimens and meet living and local examples of reptiles

Scouts can visit the special exhibit, Frogs: A Chorus of Colors, featuring LIVE and beautiful frogs from all over the world.

What’s the deal with dirt? Dig into the messy science of soil with a day of hands-on experiments, activities, and live animal encounters.

  • Meet live (and delightful) decomposers and learn about how they make our soil better
  • Dissect some dirt and look at its components under a microscope
  • Plant some seeds for your own backyard habitats
  • Experiment with a watershed and learn how dirt and water are more than just mud
