Science is great for Brownies. Explore the museum, earn badges, and meet new friends at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University!

The Academy offers exciting and interactive weekend daytime workshops and our popular Safari Overnight sleepovers for 7 to 14-year-olds.

Girls will complete their badges, but please remember that we do not provide them.

Day Workshops

Call to register for a private workshop with your group of 10 or more. Badge topics offered below.

Bugs Badge

Bugs, bugs, everywhere! Scouts will meet real live bugs, explore bug homes, and even take home their own buggy craft! Attendees will learn the difference between an insect and a spider, places bugs can be found, what they eat, and why they are so important. Don’t be afraid to have a bug-tastic time!

Senses Badge

Who can see better, humans or owls? Brownies will get a sensational sensory experience learning about their senses and using them to learn about nature and animals. These young explorers will use touch, smell, hearing, and sight while enjoying games, activities, and even a scavenger hunt!

Day Workshop Details

Call our reservations office (215-299-1060) to schedule your private workshop. Please make sure you have two to three available dates when calling.

You can register for either the morning (10:15 am–12:15 pm) or afternoon (1:30–3:30 pm) sessions on either Saturday or Sunday for the Bug Badge or Senses Badge Workshops.

Day Workshop details  

The fees per scout are $12 for the workshop and $10.95 for museum admission. All fees are due upon registration. Admission fees for additional family members are $10.95 and are due upon arrival. Members do not pay a fee for general admission. There is a $3 Individual and Family level member fee for Chocolate: The Exhibition. Family Plus level members and above receive free admission.

Final headcounts for private workshops are due one month prior to the workshops; Any cancellation after this date will not be refunded. Space is limited. Register early for your preferred date and time.

Scout parents and leaders will be able to download additional information about cancellations, workshop fees, where to go the day of the workshop, and more at a later date. Please inform us of any severe allergies or special needs at least one week before your program.

Emergency Weather Cancellation Policy

In times of severe weather conditions, it may be necessary to cancel scout workshops. However, if the museum is open, scout workshops will run as scheduled. Refunds will only be provided if the museum has closed due to weather. Please check the the Academy’s website or call 215-299-1019 for information on closings. In the event of a weather related cancellation, the Academy will attempt to reschedule the workshop. If rescheduling is not possible, a full refund will be provided.

Safari Overnights

Brownies have the opportunity to experience the Academy after dark at one of our Family and Friends Overnights. Enjoy interactive activities and meet some of our live animals—all with the guidance of the Academy’s experienced naturalists!

Break to socialize and enjoy refreshments and snacks. Sleep next to lions, tigers, or Tyrannosaurus rex. Awake to a light breakfast and more exploration. Each child receives a participation patch.

Safari Overnight Details

Safari Overnights are appropriate for children ages 7–14. One adult is required per three children.

The fees are $40 for members and $45 for nonmembers. A nonrefundable deposit of $10 per person is due upon registration. Final numbers and balance must be submitted at least three weeks prior to your overnight date. There will be no refunds given after this date. If you cancel:
If you do not pay your balance in full three weeks prior to the overnight date, you may lose your reservation. Membership information must be returned three weeks before the event; no fee adjustments will be made after that date.
If we cancel:
The Academy may cancel a Safari Overnight if there aren’t enough participants. If so, we’ll notify you two weeks prior to the event. We’ll try to arrange another overnight for you. If not, you’ll be granted a full refund.
