RSC-US members enjoyed dinner and a cruise on Lake
Champlain, Vermont
The cruise, a joint event between the American Chemical Society and RSC-US, took place at the end of the 35th ACS Northeast Regional Meeting (NERM). NERM, which RSC-US sponsored, held in scenic Burlington, Vermont, from June 29 to July 2, 2008. RSC-US was pleased that many members were able to enjoy the cruise and participate in the rest of the outstanding NERM program.

The dinner and cruise was held on The Spirit of Ethan Allen III. You can learn more about NERM at www.NERM2008.org.
NERM was held at the Sheraton Conference Center (870 Williston Road, Burlington, Vermont 05403, Phone (802) 865-6600, Fax (802) 865-6670) and a special room rate had been arranged for NERM 2008 attendees.
The NERM technical program featured symposia on topics of particular current or regional interest including Green chemistry; Inorganic, Physical, Organic and Medicinal Chemistry; Foods and Beverages; Health and Safety; Chemical Education and Environmental and Energy Chemistry. Everyone was invited to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentations of their research via the NERM web site.

The NERM technical program was complemented with technical and career development workshops, social and networking events and a day focused on continuing education for K-12 chemistry teachers. The Chemistry Enthusiasts program provided a series of entertaining and thought-provoking lectures and discussions aimed at those who have an interest in chemistry, but are not full-time researchers. NERM 2008 also featured an exhibition providing an opportunity to learn about chemistry-related products and services from leading providers. |

The area around Burlington features many outdoor activities including cycling, hiking and fishing. The view from Mount Mansfield is spectacular. The Vermont Teddy Bear Company and Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream are also within easy reach of the RSC-US and NERM meeting.
