2009 Garden Party

Madison, CT
On Saturday,
September 12, 2009 over sixty RSC members and their families gathered in
Madison, Connecticut, USA for the traditional summer garden party hosted by the
RSC US Section at the home of Dr. Paul Stonehart, a past president of the
Section. The weather cooperated and it was an ideal day to enjoy a
beautiful, secluded garden, swimming pool and the company of friends, old and
new.
This was one event
where any chemical discussions were strictly informal, and largely restricted
to the nature of the beers and wine. The traditional bill of fare included
"Snackus Britanicus", consisting of a grand selection of English
Pub Food, including by now legendary pork and egg pies, pickles, salads,
delicious chicken drumsticks and a whole variety of salads. A "Pubus
Maximus" of champagne and British ales and beers, cider and soft
drinks, followed by dessert completed the summer feast.
A new and popular
feature of this year’s party was an accordion
player. Joe Cerrito has performed in numerous clubs in Rhode
Island, Massachusetts and elsewhere in the USA as a strolling artist
collaborating with orchestras, duos and ensembles. He was a member of the 1st Army Jazz Band and
has had the distinct honor of being a backing musician for such greats as Sarah
Vaughn, Steve Allen, Harry Belafonte and Bob Wilbur. He appeared as an
accordion soloist in the movie "True Lies" starring Arnold
Schwarzenegger, as well as in many TV and radio programs. His repertoire was very wide-ranging and popular
with the attendees.

Current
members of the Executive Committee and past Presidents who were at the party.
