Since its founding in 1812, The Academy of Natural Sciences has engaged in scientific research. In fact, several fields of study within the United States, including botany (plants), entomology (insects), environmental research, ichthyology (fishes), limnology (streams and lakes), malacology (mollusks), ornithology (birds), and paleontology can trace their origins or early growth to this museum.
Academy scientists are currently conducting research in these and other fields both locally and throughout the world. In addition, we share our work and interests in natural sciences and the environment through our exhibits and programs. As members, you help us to continue our work, but you also get to have fun.
