Curious elephant stories is the appropriate title of this work. Included are myths from ancient authors, stories of elephants in battle and as beasts of burden, and information on their native habitats and on newly discovered fossil remains.
The illustration shown here (following page 36 of the book) bears an obvious resemblance to an illustration in Historiae naturalis de quadrupedibus by Jonstonus (1657).
