Humboldt recorded frequent and careful measurements where ever he traveled. These tables show almost hourly measurements of barometric pressures, temperatures, and latitude and longitude. Humboldt felt that facts and measurements were the foundation of scientific method, rather than hypothesis or conjecture. His example encouraged others to do the same, and served as a foundation for the science we practice today.
