Photography, Video and Film

For Visitors

Still photography and videotaping are permitted in the museum for private, noncommercial use only. Photography and videotaping are not permitted in certain special exhibits or during events where a "No Photography" sign is posted. Tripods are permitted, but the Academy reserves the right to limit their use during busy times to prevent traffic problems or tripping hazards. Monopods are permitted. For further assistance, contact Visitor Services, 215-299-1153.

For Press

Photographing and videotaping in the museum for the purpose of news coverage that includes the Academy of Natural Sciences as a subject are welcomed. Arrangements must be made in advance through the Communications Department, and a staff escort will be arranged. To ensure availability of staff, it is best to make arrangements at least two days in advance. To schedule a shoot, contact Kaitlyn Haney of Signature 57, on behalf of the Academy at khaney@signature57.com.

For Commercial Photographers, Videographers and Filmmakers

The Academy charges site fees for filming, videotaping and photography intended for commercial purposes. Site fees are also charged for using the museum as a setting for other projects that are not considered personal snapshots or editorial coverage by the press. Other fees may be applied depending on staff, security and special requests. Fees are calculated based on the particular needs of the project. Photography and filming that take place outside of regular business hours incur additional fees. The photographer or filmmaker is responsible for carrying personal liability insurance coverage and obtaining any necessary releases or consents to use likenesses or materials. Use of the images will be limited to the specific project only. Any additional use beyond the initial project will require prior written consent of the Academy. Arrangements should be made at least two weeks in advance. To initiate the process, send a detailed written explanation of the project, including detailed project description, date and time requested, length of shoot, location, amount and description of equipment, number of people involved and catering needs to photofilm@ansp.org.
