Local botanist and student of diatoms, active in Academy affairs and long-time officer in the Leidy Microscopical Society, he was also a member of the school system of Philadelphia, being a principal, during the early years of this century. His extensive diatom collection with its card catalog was donated to the Academy. The papers include letters, drawings of diatoms, some biographical materials and a workbook.
