Ornithologist, entomologist, lecturer and assistant curator at the Academy, Bowen at one time worked for the Sudan government, for the Baldwin Bird Research Laboratory, for the U. S. Bureau of Plant Quarantine and for the museum of Dartmouth College. “The Gray African Expedition” made explorations in 1929 and while on safari, Bowen prepared a field catalog of birds collected and a rough draft of his detailed bird notes, both of which are a part of this ms. collection.
