<p>British biologist and director of the Natural History Department of the British Museum, 1898-1907. He was Professor of Zoology and Comparative Anatomy at the Royal Institution, London, and in 1884 he founded the Marine Biological Association, becoming its President in 1892. He did valuable research on the comparative structure of animals, living and extinct. The paper with its 14 colored plates is entitled &#8220;Mollusca,&#8221; which appeared in the <emph render="italic">Encyclopedia Britannica, </emph>of 1884.</p>
