Naturalist and medical missionary to Liberia. As corresponding member of the Academy he submitted papers, some of which were published. This collection includes two articles on insects of West Africa with penciled sketches and a paper on Saurians and Ophidians, contained in a letter to Dr. Hallowell, dated Jan. 15, 1849. The latter includes a watercolor sketch of a snake called Amphisboena.
