Robert Ruliph Morgan Carpenter, with the Academy, sponsored an expedition to Greenland for the purpose of collecting animals for the Academy's collection. The expedition was made under the leadership of Capt. Robert E. Bartlett on the schooner “Morrissey.” The personnel consisted of the captain, William R. Carpenter, Robert F. Dove and Harry J. Lance, Jr. The letters and documents in this collection deal with the various aspects of the expedition, including the animals taken, and the final skinning, tanning and mounting of the mammals, the equipment, permits, expenses and itinerary of the trip. General correspondence in connection with it makes up 77 pieces.
