American naturalist, son of the Philadelphian gardener John Bartram, 1699-1778. The collection includes a diary and annotations. The main contents of the diary are meteorological, especially aimed at recording growing conditions as observed in the Bartram Gardens. The period takes in the year when a black killing frost occurred in July.

A note “A present from my worthy friend, Thomas Hewston (i.e. Houston) M. D., etc., etc. 1808. William Bartram” is written on the flyleaf of the Academy's copy of Linne's Systema Naturae, 10th ed., revised. Holmiae, 1758, v. 1, copy 2. Other annotations occurring throughout the volume are not in Bartram's hand, but possibly were made by the former owner, Thomas Houston.
