A Russian coleopterist of French extraction, Chaudoir early studied with Eschscholtz and Chevrolat under whose tutelage he was nominated to the French Entomological Society. His chief interest was in the Carabidae, with much of his research being published in his native Russian Society of Naturalists, but a goodly part in the French Society's publications. This paper was presented posthumously by A. Sallé at the June 14th meeting, 1882, of the latter. Being referred to G. H. Horn for recommendation, the manuscript found its berth among Horn's papers and library which were bequeathed to the American Entomological Society. Chaudoir collections were purchased for Réné Oberthur and eventually housed in Rennes, France.
