The collection consists of 12 numbered watercolors of fresh-water Chinese fishes, the plates bound together in a cover, 48 x 38 cm. The images themselves measure from 10 x 27 cm. to 18 x 30 cm., and are painted onto sheets measuring 47 x 36 cm. They have no fish names, descriptions, artist's signatures, or dates, although one image includes a watermark date of 1794. Henry Weed Fowler (1878-1965) stated that these are good illustrations in the style of those used in Sir John Richardon's (1787-1865) ichthyological reports of voyages on the Sulphur, Erebus and Terror, etc. The fishes are roughly identified by Fowler as carp, Goby, Loach, Mullet, Clarias (catfish), Guitarfish, Chinese Sturgeon, Hairtail, Pempherisa (?) and Channa. Fowler's identifications are given as the titles.
