<bioghist>
<p>J. Fletcher Street, 1880-1944, was born and raised in Beverly, NJ, where he would reside for his entire life. He attended Farnum Preparatory School in Beverly and studied architectural design at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts while apprenticing, first with Frank Miles Day &amp; Bro. (1898-1902), then with Cope &amp; Stewardson (1902), Milton B. Medary (1903), and Price &amp; McLanahan (1903-1914). By 1908, however, the enterprising Street had already accepted a few independent commissions and by 1914, after formally leaving the Price office, he established a partnership with Drexel Institute graduate H. Rex Stackhouse under the name Street &amp; Stackhouse.

Street held memberships in the AIA, the T-Square Club, and the Art Club of Philadelphia. He was also a member of the Academy of Natural Sciences, as his avocation was ornithology, and he authored <title render="italic">Brief Bird Biographies </title>(New York: Grosset &amp; Dunlap, 1933), which he also illustrated. He served as president of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club, treasurer of the American Ornithological Union, and president of the Geographical Society of Philadelphia.
