<p>Naturalist and artist. The various watercolors appearing in Petiver's illustrations of insects, were all fine productions, actually appearing much more finished and sophisticated than those which were published by Petiver in his insect section of the <emph render="italic">Gazophyllicum Naturae et Artis. </emph>Wherever Marshall's signature occurs, the textual matter is in manuscript and written by some other hand, the signature only differing from the rest. However, his name does appear on some drawings which have internal evidence of being older than Petiver's, i. e., 1693-1718.</p>
