Edward Wilson was a brother of Thomas B. Wilson, early president and benefactor of the Academy. Edward often acted as European agent for his brother in the purchase of books and museum collections for the Academy, including the acquisition of the famous Duc de Rivoli and Gould bird collections.

In this collection are 54 dated lists of books presented to the Academy library by Edward between April 1850 and March 1853. In all he gave 4,180 rare volumes and pamphlets. Included is one letter-photostat, to Elizabeth Bellerby Lloyd Spackman.
