Small pen and ink drawings, some pencil shaded, a few colored; drawn on slips of transparent buff paper. Pasted on pages of notebooks, the sheets of which are watermarked, in some cases, with the date of 1868. The drawings are numbered and labeled with their scientific names, but the arrangement in the volumes is not by number, but rather by geographical locality. In some cases bibliographical references are written on the slips. Where checked, it was found that the figures are direct tracings of published illustrations. Others may be original. There are in the 3 volumes, 251, 110 and 562 drawings respectively. First volume is labeled “Coleoptera Australia”, but contains beetles from other areas; the second is “Coleoptera Polynesia” in the broad sense; and the last volume is marked “Coleoptera Malayana”, and has many far distant areas included, such as the Americas.
