Science at the Academy
Research was the central pursuit that led to the founding of the Academy of Natural Science in 1812 and it continues to be a core element of its mission.
- Center for Systematic Biology and Evolution (CSBE):
CSBE collections, which include over 17 million specimens, is among the world's most significant in terms of geographic and biological breadth and for its historical depth. - Patrick Center for Environmental Research (PCER):
The Patrick Center has conducted research in aquatic ecology and aquatic resources for more than 50 years. - Ewell Sale Stewart Library:
The Library provides information services for researchers both inside and outside the Academy. In addition, its collections include many scientifically and historically significant publications and archival materials from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. - Asia Center:
A new initiative by the Academy to foster environmental protection and sustainable use of resources in Asia. This endevour builds upon recent, internationally acclaimed work in Mongolia. - Laboratory for Molecular Systematics and Ecology (LMSE):
LMSE is a molecular biology facility at the Academy that provides support for research in systematics, evolution and ecology. - North by Degrees: An International Conference on Arctic Exploration:
This interdisciplinary conference will be held in Philadelphia on May 22 through 24, 2008. - Research Opportunities:
